In our fast day-to-day lives, we shouldn’t forget to take good care of ourselves. A key part in doing so is our well-balanced diet and food habits. Are you eating your veggies?
Let’s not waste another breath, as we share with you some of the best fresh fruit & vegetable markets and gems in the city of the seven hills. Starting from the central part of the city, let’s see what we’ve got!
–Thursday Market is one of the most popular municipal markets for fresh produce such as vegetables, fruits, nuts, honey and honey products, flowers, seeds, etc. This market is situated at a top location, right next to the “Union” square (“Saedinenie” square) at ul.”Tsoko Kableshkov”. Not only does it offer a great variety of product options, but it is also convenient, as right next to it you have a pharmacy, as well as a DM shop.

However, if you live on the north side of Maritza, right before the pedestrian bridge, you can check out two small shops on ul.”Slivnitza” next to the big T Market shop. They are very well-supplied and offer a variety of fruits, vegetables, healthy snacks and vegan products. P.S. The Fuji apples are to die for. Another benefit is that there are both a Lily & DM shop right next to these fresh havens.
–Monday Market… Yes, the theme is the days of the week. The Monday market is next in our central part of the city. It’s situated right beneath the Old Town on “Monday Market” square (“Ponedelnik Pazar” square), next to the Bishop’s Basilica. Although it’s not that well-supplied in terms of variety, you can still find fresh fruits and vegetables there. Most of all, you can count on that market to save you, if you’re in a rush for a bouquet.

If you’re passing by from the city center, using the underpass, you might notice that there are old people selling different products, items or flowers right before the market at the steps. If you feel like it, don’t hesitate to buy something from them, as usually it helps them a lot to get through financially. It might cost you only 2lv., but for them it is of great help.

Not so far away from this market, on ul. “Kapitan Raycho Nikolov”, you can find an awesome mini-market for fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes, and even fresh juices. The two stands cuddle right in front of the Market center building, beneath an apartment house. Perfect if you’re in the region and out for a big grocery and supplies shopping. The giant superstore Lexi is nearby, and you also have a DM shop and a pharmacy right there as well.

This one is for the people living around Kapana and the northern part of the central pedestrian street. As it is a bit hard to find fresh veggies & fruits at the central pedestrian street, apart from BILLA – this one’s for you. On the side of the “Hali” shopping center (the side facing the döner shops), at the very end, you can locate a tiny shop full of fresh vegetables & fruits, legumes, nuts, and cleaning supplies for your household. If you’re in a hurry and want something fresh on the go, you can step right into the coffee shop right next to it, and have a freshly squeezed juice & coffee. Good prices and not so heavy traffic, as in the non-stops.
-Rowing Channel Market
If you’re staying or living near the rowing channel, then for sure you’ve been to this abundant place! Right before the barriers leading to the Rowing Channel Complex, this market is full of veggies, fruits, nuts, flowers, seeds, etc. The perks here are that you have a parking lot, so you can really get heavy on your shopping. Aside from that, there are different shops and a bakery around. What better way to finish off your weekend walk than grocery shopping on the way to your lovely home?!

While you’re in the neighborhood, you can also check out the 2+2 supermarket located at bul. “Peshtersko Shose” 28. Now this is a supermarket with a wide variety of products – tons of healthy snacks, coffee to go, cakes and sweets, household supplies, tons of different beers and wines, and to make things even better – there is a BBQ Brothers place right next to it.
So, in our selection, these are some of the best markets and shops you can check out at any time. Be it on holiday here, or freshly moved into town, you’ll be pleased with the fresh produce you’ll find. Because, let’s face it – no day is complete without a delicious veggie or some tasty fruits!
